Abstract: The FLAC5.02D numerical simulation software was used to study the effect of roof and floor strength on deformation characteristics of surrounding rock of deep gob-side entry retaining according to the geological conditions of No. 1115(1) working face in Guqiao coal mine, the Huainan coal mining area. The results showed that the deformation of roadway surrounding rock increases with the increase of mining depth when kept unchanged in size and shape of the roadway cross-section, method and strength of support, while the increase range of surrounding rock deformation is various under different roof and floor strength, the surrounding rock deformation of soft rock is more sensitive to the depth. With the increase of mining depth, the roof convergence with soft roof roadway is greater than that with hard roof, the displacement of floor heave with soft floor roadway is greater than that with hard floor, the filled wall convergence with hard roof roadway is higher than that with soft roof, the roadway’s coal side convergence is similar at different roof and floor strength. This conclusion can be validated by site measurement the surrounding rock deformation of gob-side entry retaining in two deep mines.
